The photo on the far left shows a cut through The PK System exposing the bare steel to a coastal environment. Although this damage happened during installation, there is no corrosion creep even after 18 months exposure.

In the photo on the right, the corrosion and staining have been removed by coarse sanding. There are no signs of under-film corrosion creep or runaway corrosion because there is no galvanic reaction.

This means the coating can be easily repaired should it be damaged on site.

So how effective is The PK System at preventing and resisting corrosion?

The salt spray test for the highest corrosion classes C4 and C5 for industrial and marine
environments is 1440 hours. Basically, the coating is cut through to expose bare steel to a hot, salt
environment – a very aggressive, accelerated test.

This is The PK System after 2000 hours of salt spray testing:
Coated surface:
– no blistering
– no peeling
– no rust
At cut:
– no blistering
– no peeling
rusting at the cut is normal and can be easily removed and
repaired because there is no under-film corrosion creep.

This is The PK System after 3000 hours of salt spray testing:
Coated surface:
– no blistering
– no peeling
– no rust
At cut:
– no blistering
– no peeling
– rusting at the cut is normal and can be easily removed and
repaired because there is no under-film corrosion creep.

Even after a whopping 5000 hours exposure in a salt spray test, The PK System shows no
blistering, no peeling and no rust on the coated surface and no blistering or peeling at the cut.

That`s equivalent to over 25 years natural exposure!
